KU Tutors provide interactive learning experiences for Alaskan students- tailoring their sessions around student interests. Tutoring runs 7-8 weeks per semester, and is 100 % online. Tutors can create sessions using Microsoft Powerpoint that are uploaded prior to each session. Alaskan students follow along and can interact with all material. During first tutoring sessions, tutors get to know their students, focusing on interests and areas of need. Tutors design their sessions to be interactive and fun, while meeting the needs of each student and providing supplemental material that accompanies student learning in the classroom. Tutors design each session according to student intervention programs, which are sent to tutors prior to the start of the program. Tutors also have the option of using the online platform to present material via videos and learning games to diversify content. All Tutors are selected after completing an application, reviewing their academic proformance, and show outstanding academic and professional achievement in their teacher preparation programs. Tutors are responsible for communicating weekly with the student's teachers, and designing meaningful lessons that are supervised by program coordinator and graduate assistant at the university level.
Tutors can continue throughout their career at Kutztown University, as long as they continue to meet the requirements.
